At 60

Her husband had retired, and she was growing old too.

The gray in her hair had become impossible to hide, no matter how often she dyed it.

He would go grocery shopping for her. Whenever they crossed the street, he still instinctively reached for her hand and held it just as he had when they were young.

She would blush and protest,

“We're old now. And you're still doing this…”

Yet she never pulled her hand away.

Nor did she care if anyone laughed.

At 70

Her husband sat in his chair, fiddling with some new piece of high-tech gadgetry.

His eyesight had grown weaker with age, and he now needed glasses.

Beside him, she slowly turned the pages of an old, yellowing photo album.

These days, they often sat together and reminisced about the life they had shared.

How they had met.

How they had fallen in love.

How they had married.

How they had welcomed a child into the world.

Her husband looked at her and smiled.

“When we were young, you were always taking pictures.”

Now, looking back at those old photographs, they felt nothing but happiness.

Their whole life together seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye.

And somehow, it had been enough.

At 80

Her health grew weaker with every passing year.

She began to suffer from memory loss, asking the same questions over and over again.

Sometimes, whenever she could not see her husband, she would panic like a frightened child, desperately searching for him.

The greatest happiness of her life had been becoming his wife.

And he would tell her,

“The greatest blessing of my life was meeting you.”

He would take her hand and hold it tightly, just as he had done for all those years.

And together, they would make the same promise they had made long ago—

To walk all the way to the end of the road together.

Until the heart stopped beating.

Until the feet could no longer carry them.

Even then,

they would never let each other go.
