That night, lying beside me, my husband whispered,
“See? Even the internet company doesn't support your divorce.”
The next morning, when I was getting ready for work, I discovered the truth.
He had unplugged the internet sometime during the night.
I loved him all over again.
And suddenly, life seemed wonderful.
Then came divorce number...
We had another huge argument, and this time my husband was angrier than I was.
The moment I mentioned divorce, he nodded.
“Fine. Write it. I'll sign.”
Then he punched the glass door.
It shattered.
I had never seen him that angry before.
I was terrified, but I still pulled out a sheet of paper and started writing.
He snatched it from me, signed it without hesitation, and walked out of the house.
That night, I lay in bed crying quietly, overwhelmed with regret.
More than a dozen times, I picked up my phone.
More than a dozen times, I put it back down.
I couldn't bring myself to say the words, I'm sorry.
He didn't come home until one in the morning.
He smelled of alcohol, but he wasn't drunk.
I lay with my back turned toward the wall, pretending to be asleep.
He stood at the foot of the bed and looked at me for a long time.
Then he lay down and wrapped his arms around my back.
I breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
But I still had to pretend to be frightened and angry.
“What are you doing?”
My husband buried his face against my back and murmured,
“Well, we're getting divorced tomorrow anyway, so we might as well make tonight memorable.”
I burst out laughing.
He laughed too.
And somehow, after that, everything fell back into place.
We became close again, and just like that, the argument was forgotten.
If anything, I loved my husband even more.
Maybe all those imaginary divorces taught me something I had never fully understood before.
They made me realize just how much my husband loved me.
If I were in his shoes and had to deal with a spoiled, temperamental wife like me, I probably would have left a long time ago.
Yet he stayed.
Again and again, he stayed.
And somehow, after every one of those unforgettable “divorces,” I found myself loving him a little more.
My marriage to him is not something I take for granted.
It is a privilege.
And above all, it is one of the greatest pieces of luck life has ever given me.
