Years pass like a song; love burns like a flame.

She was seventy now.

A lifetime of hard physical labor had taken its toll. Her health had deteriorated, and arthritis had left her walking with a limp.

He was sixty-four and had been retired for many years.

For the past two years, they had lived in this neighborhood together.

Whenever the weather was clear and the cold wasn't too severe, people could often see them in the courtyard or beside the flowerbeds.

She would walk slowly with a cane in her hand while he supported her from the side.

Step by careful step, he guided her forward.

Sometimes, watching them, it was almost as though he were helping a little child learn to walk.

So gentle.

So patient.

So full of tenderness.

Those who knew their story could not help but watch them with emotion.

Their love had endured decades of hardship, gratitude, sacrifice, and companionship—a bond that had carried them faithfully through an entire lifetime.

He once said:

“She gave me my life.

She gave my mother warmth.

She gave me a home.

Now, for the rest of my life, I will take care of her.”

He took her hand.

Just as she had once taken the hand of a five-year-old boy and led him forward into the world.

They smiled at each other.

And in that moment, they were as beautiful as the soft evening clouds resting quietly on the horizon of a summer sky.
