Chapter 2

Three years ago, she and I had seemed like a match made in heaven.

We were in the same major and attended the same class, although I was two years older than her. When I was a child, a serious heart condition had forced me to fall two years behind in school. The illness had gradually eased over the years, but every now and then, I could still feel a sharp pain in my chest.

That was why, when she broke up with me, I ended up in the hospital, with the possibility that my heart condition could flare up again at any moment.

From that moment on, she disappeared completely from my life.

I tried everything to contact her. I searched for people who knew her. I even went to her home looking for her. But there was no trace of her anywhere.

I thought I would never see her again.

I thought she would never be part of my life again.

When my last bit of hope finally faded, I slowly forced myself to erase everything connected to her from my mind. I listened to my mother and agreed to become engaged to a girl she believed was better than my former lover in every possible way.

I never imagined that she would reappear in my life at exactly this moment.

And now, after three years, she was standing right in front of me again.

Memories slowly began to resurface in my mind.

“Can I sit here?”

I was sitting in my usual corner of a café, slowly sipping a cup of hot coffee—the same café where she and I used to spend so much time together.

Then her voice suddenly reached me, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Oh… it’s you?”

Those sharp eyes of hers still looked at me with the same gentle warmth.

“Hmm… sure. Sit down.”

She quietly pulled out a chair and sat across from me, then immediately ordered a cup of hot milk coffee.

“When I saw you the other day, we didn’t really get a chance to talk. I happened to run into you here today. You’re not busy, are you?” she asked, studying my face.

“Hmm… no, I’m not. So… you’re not out with your… boyfriend today?”

“No! I broke up with him.”

She spoke casually as she stirred the cup of coffee the waiter had just brought her. Her expression didn’t change in the slightest, as though breaking up with someone was nothing unusual for her.

“Why did you break up? You two looked like you were having a great time.”

“Hehe. That was just for show. Every time I looked at him, I felt like throwing up. And on top of that, he was so cheap. Not a single gift he ever gave me was genuine! He even embarrassed me in front of my closest friends. Someone like him doesn’t deserve me. Hehe.”
