Chapter 5
She and I had grown much closer by then.
We texted and called each other often. Almost every evening, I would stop by the cake shop. Since I was still working as an intern, I had plenty of free time.
And afterward, I would take her home.
Somehow, without either of us really noticing, it became our first official date.
That Sunday morning, we went out for coffee.
We talked for hours, and with every conversation, it felt as though we understood each other a little better.
She was an incredibly independent girl. When it came to money, she usually handled everything herself and rarely asked her parents for help unless things became truly difficult.
I opened up to her, too.
I told her about myself, about graduating from N University of Economics, and about how I was currently working for my family’s corporation.
Sitting this close to her, I could see her more clearly than ever.
Her monolid eyes.
The elegant bridge of her nose.
Her small, delicate lips.
Her fair, flawless skin.
And somehow, I realized that with each passing day, I wanted to look at her more.
I wanted to see her smile.
I wanted to protect her.
So this was what love felt like.
At some point in life, you have to be willing to take the first step.
While she was listening to me talk, her face turned toward me, her eyes focused intently on every word I said.
And then, almost without thinking, I leaned forward and pressed my lips gently against her forehead.
Soft.
Warm.
Tender.
For once, I didn’t feel embarrassed.
I reached for her hand and held it in mine.
Together, we gazed out through the window.
I could feel the faint tremble running through her fingers.
I could see the blush slowly spreading across her cheeks.
And then I felt her head gently come to rest against my shoulder.
Sometimes, that is all it takes.
Nothing grand.
Nothing extraordinary.
Just two people sitting quietly together, holding hands and watching the world outside.
And somehow, in that simple moment, happiness felt like a warm liquid slowly flowing through every part of our bodies, filling us from the inside out.
