Chapter 1
The last SMS from “Him”:
“Sleep well, sweetheart. Please forget me… There will be someone better than me, someone who will truly love you more than I ever could… I’m sorry… so sorry…”
Sunny clutched her phone tightly in one hand while covering her mouth with the other, trying to hold back the cries that were breaking inside her. But it was useless. Tears continued to stream down her face as she sobbed uncontrollably, each breath filled with pain.
Had she really lost “Him”?
No!
She couldn’t let that happen!
She wanted to scream. She wanted to tear apart this gloomy, suffocating night. In desperation, she frantically typed a message to him:
“Don’t leave me!”
But the message never went through.
Helpless, Sunny could do nothing but cry until exhaustion finally overcame her and she fell asleep.
The first rays of sunlight from the new day slowly slipped through the crack in the window, shining directly into the room and startling Sunny awake.
Her eyes were swollen from crying, and now she had to squint against the harsh sunlight. She looked utterly miserable. Her throat was bitter and dry, her voice hoarse. The sunlight flooded the room, exposing every trace of exhaustion and despair on Sunny’s face.
When she looked at herself in the mirror, she was startled.
She looked so broken.
Terrified, Sunny yanked the curtain shut, completely covering the window.
She wouldn’t let the sunlight in.
She sat there, lost in her thoughts…
“He” had left far too suddenly, leaving her no chance to hold on to him. It was something she had never imagined could happen. They hadn’t even argued. There had been no fight, no warning. Out of nowhere, he had told her they were breaking up. He said there was someone else.
That was all she knew.
And somehow, she was expected to accept it.
Tears once again streamed down her cheeks.
She felt as though she was going to die from the pain.
Here is the English translation of the story, written in a natural and emotionally expressive narrative style:
In the days that followed, she could not reach him. After more than half a year of being together, how could she just forget him right away? All Sunny could do now was cry and miss him. Her diary was stained with tears, and her blog was filled with pictures of him. Her friends felt heartbroken for her, but no one could help. Sunny still had to live, relying on memories rather than the present. She was like a soulless ghost, acting purely on autopilot. Day after day, she still went to school; she didn't cry anymore, but she didn't smile either. When night fell, at exactly 10:30 PM, she would still text "Him" to say goodnight, as if what happened that day were just a dream. Never mind the texts that were never replied to...
