We had been dating for almost five months.
Sometimes, I felt as though everything between us was moving too quickly, almost too quickly to be real.
I told him about those feelings, and whenever I did, he would pull me into his arms, kiss me gently, and say,
“Don’t be afraid. I’ll always be here for you.”
There was something in his eyes that always made me believe him.
I loved him.
More than that, I trusted him completely.
One day, we went into a small café with hardly any customers. He walked over and quietly said something to the owner before making his way to the piano.
Then he began to sing a Chinese song, accompanying himself on the piano.
“I’m searching for a shoulder to lean on,
For a pair of arms to hold me close.
Someone who will pray for me,
Worry for me, lose their temper for me,
Even make a little trouble on my behalf.
The signs of happiness have already begun.
Fate is slowly bringing us closer together.
And loneliness will eventually disappear,
While even the most ordinary words
Have suddenly become meaningful…”
As he sang, he kept looking at me.
His voice was incredibly gentle and clear. His fingers danced across the piano keys, while his eyes remained fixed on mine, carrying a warmth that made my heart tremble.
I walked toward him and sat down beside him.
Then I sang:
“Those little dimples, those long eyelashes—
They are the beautiful things I love about you.
Every night, I lie awake,
Thinking about your beautiful smile.
You don’t know just how important you are to me.
Having you in my life
Is the greatest luck I could ever have…”
When we finished singing, the whole café erupted in applause.
I looked at him and smiled.
I had never thought he could look so beautiful.
So perfect.
So extraordinary.
And truly, having him in my life was the luckiest thing that had ever happened to me.
We were in love.
I held her hand as we walked along the shady street on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
Neither of us said anything.
We simply walked side by side, enjoying the silence.
Then, suddenly, she stopped.
She rose onto her toes and gently kissed my cheek.
“Trần Hoàng Dieter, you’re such a vampire! You seduce innocent girls!”
I pinched her nose playfully, then kissed her lips.
“Nguyễn Daria, you’re the shameless little wolf. The moment you see a handsome man, you start drooling!”
“I do not!” she protested, scrunching up her face.
“Right here.”
I leaned down and kissed her soft, delicate lips.
Happiness really does have its own sweetness.
Its own warmth.
As long as I could see her smile, hold her hand, embrace her, and protect her, I would feel like the luckiest man in the world.
“Daria, I love you.”
The afternoon sunlight fell softly over us as we stood there, two people completely lost in happiness, kissing beneath the golden glow.
It was a beautiful kiss.
And in that moment, I knew.
I knew I wanted to be the man who would stay by her side for the rest of her life—the one who would protect her, shelter her, and love her through everything.
She was the warmest light in my life.
“I’ll slow my steps, as if I’ve had too much to drink,
Because at last, I’ve found the beauty of being understood.
My whole life is filled with warmth and happiness.
And I will love you, forever, for the rest of my life.”
