Chapter 6
Not making Sunny wait long, Lan spoke up:
— Sunny... Honestly, I'm not happy to know that you're constantly going on your blog writing all sorts of things about my boyfriend, and messaging him every single night to bother him, even though you know he finds it very annoying and will never reply...
— I...
— Don't explain anything. I just want to tell you that from now on, leave David alone. Oh, and is this your new boyfriend? You two look good together. Wish you happiness and please stop bothering us anymore... Alright?
With that, Lan pulled "Him" by the hand and walked straight away. Sunny sat completely still, without reacting, tears welling up miserably. She stared blankly at the ice cream glass, which was almost completely melted.
Dylan anxiously shook her shoulder:
— Sunny... What's wrong?
Sunny burst into tears, sobbing soundlessly. Dylan frantically tried to comfort her:
— There, there... Don't... Be a good girl... Stop crying...
Sunny buried her face in Dylan's shoulder, her tears soaking right through his shirt. "Him" glanced over at her, looking uneasy, but then turned away very quickly...
The outing with Dylan, which had been so joyful, suddenly vanished into thin air with "His" appearance. Sunny slipped back into her usual dazed state. Her face turned sullen and gloomy again. Timidly, Dylan suggested:
— Let's head home, shall we?
— Yes. — Sunny replied as softly as a whisper.
Here is the English translation of this passage:
Sunny hated the night. It made her miss "Him" terribly!
The four walls surrounding Sunny silently watched her cry. Who knew how many tears Sunny had shed because of "Him." Sunny laid out all their memories scattered across her bed: the stuffed cat "He" gave her on Christmas, the matching couple rings where "He" still held one, the pretty handmade greeting card "He" made for her birthday, the photos of the two of them together, "His" smile overflowing with happiness... Sunny swore she would throw everything away, burn it all! But... she had to get through tonight. Exhausted, she drifted off to sleep in the past, with warm, deep melodies still echoing in her ears:
"Return to where the sunlight doesn't reach, to find nameless sensations. The quietness in the night, the lingering empty spaces within me... Return to the truly sad rain showers settling down, unforgettable. Return to the wind and clouds, letting emotions drift away with the grass and trees. Return to where love first began when the storms had never yet arrived. Return to sweet memories that neither you nor I will ever forget. Sunlight gently tangles in my hair, carrying away the emotions belonging to you. Letting my soul soar with the breeze up into patches of azure sky..."
For days afterward, Sunny lived like a shadow. After classes ended, she went straight home, never lingering at cafes, not even going to the library. She threw herself into studying to forget the rest of the world. She became more closed-off than ever. Silent and gloomy, she barely wanted to interact with anyone at all. Sometimes, she even stealthily thought about death...
One day, while cleaning her room, Sunny discovered the roly-poly toy that Dylan had given her a while ago, lying motionlessly in a corner. Unconsciously, Sunny dropped the roly-poly toy onto the floor. It still swayed, still wobbled, and finally, it still returned to its original upright position.
Sunny picked it up again, then dropped it once more. Dozens of times, the roly-poly toy stubbornly stood firm. A sharp pain stabbed at Sunny's chest. Suddenly remembering something, Sunny bolted up and ran out of the house as fast as she could. The afternoon sun was still blazing, sweat drenched her face, and Sunny burst rushingly into the library. Glancing over at their familiar spot, she beamed with joy:
— Dylan!
Dylan looked up, caught Sunny's gaze, and smiled without any surprise:
— Hello there, young lady!
— Do you come here every single day? — Sunny walked in, puzzled.
— Yeah, I wait for you every day...
After a moment of silence, Sunny spoke up:
— I've thought it through, Dylan. From now on, I'm going to live differently. I'm going to... take revenge. Teach me how!
— Do you still have the roly-poly toy? — Dylan asked.
— Yes. — Sunny cheerfully held out the roly-poly toy she was clutching in her hand.
— Because of it, you finally understand the point!
— Great!
