Another sun-drenched afternoon... Forgotten to mention, Sunny was no longer afraid of the sun... who knows since when. One day, she even stood by the window, using her small, pretty hand to catch the faint sunlight, squinting to watch tiny dust motes hurriedly dancing in the air. Sunny remained loyal to Rex Cafe from the days she loved "Him," and even now she had no intention of changing her "operating base." Dylan went to the counter to order drinks, while Sunny sat in her chair, her head swaying to the music just as innocently as she had months ago. Suddenly, a hesitant hand was placed on her shoulder.
Sunny turned around, utterly stunned:
— "Him"...?!!
Sunny stood up abruptly, looking at him inquisitively. He lowered his head and spoke softly:
— Sunny... I'm sorry...
She was astonished. Her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest.
— I know I was wrong. Leaving the one who loves me to be with the one I fancy... was such a rash, immature decision. I know you were very sad, I know you still... love me... I read what you wrote on your blog a few days ago... And... Can you give me another chance, please?
Sunny's ears felt like they were ringing. She continued to stare blankly at him, her lashes trembling. Just then, Dylan returned to the table. Looking bewildered and feeling like a spare wheel in this conversation, he intended to step outside so the two of them could talk. Sunny suddenly snapped back to reality; she took a deep breath and let it out forcefully:
— Perhaps I should introduce you. Those lines you just read on my blog are actually just a story I made up. The main male character somewhat resembles you... But the main female character, who loves him for the rest of her life, is not me... — Then Sunny turned to gently take Dylan's hand. — And you know what... This is my new boyfriend!
Sunny emphasized every single word, squeezing Dylan's hand tighter.
"Him" was utterly shocked and stammered:
— Sunny... I know you're doing this on purpose to torment me... But I've already repented...
— Don't you understand? — Sunny said sarcastically. — Normally I wouldn't be able to erase your image so quickly. But think about it, when I was in utter despair and needed you the most, where were you? Oh well... And Hoàng Lan, your precious little girlfriend—why didn't she chain you up so you wouldn't wander around and make people waste effort looking for you?
— You...
"Him" turned blue in the face. Sunny continued:
— You'll soon see that no one will ever love and understand you as much as I did. But oh well, I think... you're not worthy. As for now, I don't want to choose anymore; I—love—the-one-who-loves-me! Now leave!
"Him" stared at Sunny in shock.
— Who on earth made you become like this?
— Don't ask, you already know the answer...
Furious, "Him" stormed out of the cafe. Sunny didn't look after him. A teardrop rolled down her cheek, but it was accompanied by a smile... It was only then that Dylan spoke up:
— Liar.
Sunny said with a mix of emotion and remorse:
— I've really forgotten David...
— No — Dylan turned his face away. — You said, "I—love—the-one-who-loves-me," remember?
Sunny's cheeks flushed bright red, her hand still resting snugly and warmly in the palm of Dylan's:
— I'm telling the truth.
— What? — Dylan turned back.
— Cross my heart! I'm serious...
July was bathed in brilliant golden sunshine. Across the street, people could see a young girl happily shouting out loud:
— Darling! I passed! Remember your promise to take me out, so make it happen!
And she jumped up, tightly hugging the tall, lanky guy whose face was glowing with absolute happiness. Dylan looked at her affectionately:
— I'm the one who trained you, after all. My girl did great! Now, where do you want to go with me?
Sunny looked gently at Dylan, smiling softly:
— Anywhere is fine, as long as it's for the rest of our lives...
Two shadows leaned against each other, stretching long across the sun-drenched road, their fingers tightly intertwined... Somewhere, the ending of a love song echoed:
“...If you still remember yesterday, please don't let the sunlight fade away...”
