Chapter 4
That evening, as she was chatting on Facebook with some of her college friends, a text message came in. But because she was engrossed in chatting, Orianna told herself she would check it later. It wasn't until she turned off her phone to go to sleep that she remembered the message. She opened it to find a text from an unknown number: "I'm the guy who wanted to meet you this afternoon. I was wondering if you have any free time to chat now?"
Smiling to herself—that annoying guy again—she texted back: "My wife went to sleep a long time ago. Whatever you have to say, you can tell me."
Felix had been sitting around waiting for Orianna's text all evening. Suddenly, his phone chimed. He hurriedly opened it and was startled by the content of the message. Realizing full well that Orianna was teasing him, he replied: "I don't think she's asleep yet. Since the baby isn't asleep, how could she possibly sleep before her child? Could you please hand the phone over to Orianna?"
Good grief, this guy really is thick-skinned! Texting someone's husband like that and being so brazen—isn't he afraid the husband will come and beat him up? Thinking that, Orianna tapped the screen and called him back. Felix jumped when his phone rang and the caller ID showed Orianna's number.
– "Hello?"
– "Who is this? Why are you texting me like this? Don't tell me you want to tear my family apart?"
– "Only by breaking up your imaginary family can I have a chance to build a real family with you, Orianna," Felix joked.
– "What? Are you out of your mind? Please, from tomorrow on, stop texting me like that. My husband will get mad at me."
– "He won't get mad at you, don't worry. I'm not the jealous type."
– "What the heck are you rambling about? Go to sleep and have a nightmare."
– "I'll be dreaming of you."
– "Seeing me is a nightmare in your life."
With that, Orianna hung up.
Felix smiled to himself and thought, "This girl has so much personality. The road to winning her heart is going to be a tough one." With that thought, Felix drifted off to sleep before he even knew it.
– "Orianna, dear, today is your day off, let's take your mother up to the district market to buy a few things."
– "Okay, Mom, get ready and let's go."
As the mother and daughter walked and chatted along the way, suddenly, from afar, the wail of a traffic police siren rang out. They saw Felix speeding on his motorcycle right behind a bike carrying two young men, trailing behind the traffic police car. Orianna hurriedly pulled her bike over to the side of the road to get out of the way and watch. After a brief chase, Felix caught up with the fleeing riders and forced their motorcycle over to the roadside.
Before Orianna could fully understand what was happening, her heart fluttered with suspense. The traffic police officer stepped out of the vehicle and walked over to where Felix was standing with the young men. A bright smile broke out on Felix's face as his right hand went up to scratch his head in embarrassment. That smile made Orianna's heart skip a beat; his white teeth and a cute canine tooth could make any girl's heart flutter at the sight of that smile.
– "What are you staring at, child? Do you know anyone over there?"
– "Oh, no, Mom. Let's keep going."
Before turning away, Orianna caught sight of the police officer shaking Felix's hand as if thanking him, while Felix smiled again and waved his hand shyly. Bystanders nearby whispered among themselves:
– "Good thing he was there, otherwise the traffic police would never have caught those reckless young traffic violators."
A warm feeling bubbled up inside Orianna. It seemed she had developed a bit of a soft spot for Felix after seeing him do a good deed.
