Chapter 6
Orianna's jaw dropped. She stared wide-eyed at Felix, then gOriannaced over at her parents, bracing herself for a harsh reaction from her father. But Orianna's father just slowly took a sip of water and calmly spoke to Felix:
– "You two are adults. If you want to pursue something, take it seriously and get to know each other properly. I'm not forbidding it, but you need to understand each other thoroughly first. A lifelong commitment isn't something to rush. Feel free to visit the house whenever you like. We only have one daughter, so we just want her to find a good person."
– "Yes, thank you, sir!" Felix beamed, turning to Orianna with a grin that stretched from ear to ear.
As for Orianna, her mind was buzzing. She couldn't process anything else after those words from Felix and her father. Turning to her mother in desperation, she tried to signal for help.
– "Since your father has said so, I agree as well," her mother added. "I just hope the two of you take your time to get to know each other carefully and seriously, and then we won't object to anything."
– "Dad, Mom, there's something I need to say!"
– "You hid him from us way too well! Well, you two go ahead and chat, your mother and I are heading upstairs."
– "That's not how it is, Mom and Dad, you misunderstood me!" Orianna cried out.
– "Excuse me, sir and madam, may I take Orianna out for a bit?"
– "Be back early," her father replied.
– "Yes, sir!"
Orianna slumped heavily onto the sofa. Turning to glare at Felix, she snapped:
– "What the heck are you doing? I dared you to come ask permission to take me out, I didn't dare you to come ask permission to 'get to know' me!"
– "Heh heh, what's the difference? Either way, your parents already agreed, didn't they?"
– "Huhu... Why didn't my parents check you out thoroughly first before handing an innocent sheep over to a wolf like this? Hu-hu..."
– "Ahem, let me correct you: I'm a good guy, so your father didn't need to check me out. My whole aura just radiates pure goodness."
Orianna raised her eyes to look at Felix. Perhaps because today Felix wasn't dressed the way he usually did, her father thought he was well-behaved. Today, Felix wore a tucked-in white button-down shirt and black shoes, giving off a scholar-like vibe instead of his usual tough look. That was why her father thought he was a polite, decent person and allowed her to befriend him. If her father ever found out what Felix was really like, he would surely throw him out the door instantly!
– "Well, little miss, can we go out now?"
– "Hmph, I don't know what spell you cast to get my father to agree, but you're not taking advantage of me anytime soon!" With that, Orianna stomped upstairs to change her clothes.
– "I didn't do anything! I just said what was on my mind," Felix protested defensively.
For the past few days, Felix hadn't come over to Orianna's house, nor had he texted her. When her father asked about him, she just replied indifferently, "Where he goes or what he does, how would I know?"
Actually, deep down inside, Orianna felt a bit worried and felt a sense of emptiness. Ever since they met, Felix had texted her every night to wish her good night, and even when the weather was freezing cold before 6 AM, he would still wake up early to call and wake Orianna up for work. Not seeing Felix come by or text to check up on her for the past few days made her a little anxious. Had he gone off to hang out with his bad friends and gotten into trouble?
This morning, upon arriving at the office, she heard the head of the commune police talking about how young people had been gathering to fight a lot lately, and that the mobile police and key security forces had to patrol every night to maintain public order.
